CAMPAIGNS & POLICY

Since 1996 Katie Froud a former model and the founder of Alba Model Info, has been campaigning alone for better regulation of the modelling industry. She needs your help.

In 1995, the Conservative Government Axed the registration and vetting process for agencies in the UK ,without good reason and despite the pleas of the UK’s genuine agencies, plus organisations such as Equity, BECTU and the AMA. This change in policy has left the door open to undesirables of various types who seek to prey upon and exploit the young and naive. We say that this is unacceptable that persons of undesirable natures with serious convictions can and have been able to set up in the UK and then prey upon our Nations young and vulnerable. Katie has written numerous times to the Prime Minister Mr Blair, Along with top cabinet members, to alert them to dangers faced by the public, but her one voice falls upon deaf ears.

The Alba campaign which was started by Katie in 1997 is that the DTI Ministers & Government must better regulate the industry by banning up front fees and most important bring back into place a register of agents which are either already trading or intend to set up in the UK . Under the present system, which has no register of UK agents, how can the DTI Agencies Inspectorate officers administer the current laws concerning agencies or even any new laws introduced since at present the DTI has
no idea of :-

1. HOW MANY AGENCIES THERE ARE AT PRESENT IN THE U. K.
2. WHERE THE AGENCIES ARE ALL BASED.
3. WHO IS RUNNING THOSE AGENCIES.
4. HOW THOSE AGENCIES TRADE.

If a Government Minister’s own child or family member were the victim of some of the cold hearted, devastating and nightmare cases we have dealt with over the years, we very much doubt that the blind eye or continued denial that there is a risk to the public, especially young people would continue. The current investigation policy of the DTI Agencies Inspectorate, is that there must be a victim before officers can act !

We say that one victim is one too many especially if it is a child !
